HTML 5.0

More HTML? Seriously? I thought the world had moved past the days of attributes without values and lacking quotes.

I understand that perhaps different levels of markup may be helpful and necessary. I wonder the way XHTML 2.0 seems to be developing if a few semantic elements such as section, div, h, and span could suffice. Of course I see no reason to eliminate object, meta, link, and other such elements, but I see no reason that many other tags need to be kept.

On the other hand, part of what has made (X)HTML the standard format was that it has a simple set of clearly understandable tags for basic markup. I think amateurs should be able to write a simple web page designed to be rendered forgivingly. However, the specification should be a valid XML format. It really isn’t that difficult to close your tags.
